Raipur. Today, on World Environment Day, young men dressed in black clothes performed a unique demonstration by making a model of the melting earth at Telibandha pond (Marine Drive) in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. The young men have made people aware of the effect of greenhouse gas as one of the reasons for the rising temperature of the earth and to reduce it, they have encouraged people to go vegan.

The youth who came to give the message of environmental protection demonstrated by holding huge forks and knives and placards on which it was written, “Meat is melting the planet.”

In fact, the “Choose Vegan” demonstration was aimed at highlighting meat production and consumption to non-vegetarians as a major cause of global warming.

Know how meat production and consumption increases global warming

With rising sea levels, more severe storms, flooding and the melting Himalayas, India is facing some of the worst impacts of global warming,” said Kushal Samaddar of the group Mercy for Animals.

The most effective way to reduce global warming

Kushal said, “Raising animals for meat and dairy production is a major cause of greenhouse gas emissions. Along with this, adopting a vegan diet is the most effective way to reduce greenhouse gases.”

Food production companies produce 33% of the world’s methane

Food production accounts for at least 33% of greenhouse gas emissions worldwide, with the animal husbandry industry for meat production alone responsible for 20%.

Let us tell you, India’s livestock industry, with 303 million cattle including cows and buffaloes, is the biggest contributor to the emission of global warming gases.

India is one of the top methane emitters

Methane traps 80 times more heat in the atmosphere than carbon dioxide. India is the world’s third-largest emitter of methane, with livestock contributing about 48% of its methane emissions.

The youth say that as India continues to develop, it is important to balance economic development with environmental management to reduce the effects of global warming. For this, the need to convert people into vegetarians has become even more urgent. With the decrease in the demand for meat among people, the need for meat production will also decrease and in this way we can control global warming.
