Surajpur 21 January 2021. Surajpur district has been ranked first among the best districts in the country for the work done in the field of water conservation and promotion by the Ministry of Waterpower, Government of India. This collective effort has been achieved under the guidance of Collector Shri Ranbir Sharma and District Panchayat CEO Mr. Akash Chhikara. The District was awarded the National Water Award for the year 2019 for the conservation and promotion of water sources by the Ministry of Water Power of the Central Government. In this, Surajpur district has been awarded first prize at the national level on the East Underwater Conservation category. The award was announced on 27 October 2020 by the Government of India, Ministry of Water Power, Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation. The district administration has received the recommendation letter for getting first place in the second National Water Award.
On this achievement, Collector Shri Ranbir Sharma said that this is a result of our collective effort. This has given us the motivation to do good work. In the coming time, better efforts will be made for the development of the district in other areas including water promotion and conservation. The Collector has congratulated the entire team. Congratulating the District Panchayat CEO Mr. Akash Chikara for this magnificent achievement, he said that currently 64 drains are being developed in the district under the Narva Project of NGGB for water conservation, in which water availability for irrigation will increase and water level Will also increase.
The district has been selected on these achievements-
It is to be known that important works have been done for water conservation and promotion in the district, which along with the irrigation system has strengthened the economic condition of the people and also increased the water level. About one lakh 48 thousand 32 hectares of land is cultivated in the district. Under various departments and MNREGA, work has been made possible by preparing structures of some rivulets. About 5 thousand 665 structures have been built under MNREGA, which has increased the possibility of irrigating about 15199.8 hectares of additional land. In which works of wells, ponds, dams etc. have been done. Various structures were designed to increase irrigation and water levels.
Despite the lack of electricity in the villages, about 2237 solar panels and pumps have been installed by CREDA, which has proved to be a boon for farmers due to lack of timely rainfall. Around 2079 different structures have been prepared for ground water recharge in the district such as gully plugs, LBCD Gabion structure percolation tanks, recharge pits etc. With the construction of all these structures, 156910 cubic meters of water level has been registered in the district.
In the context of water level rise in the district, rain water harvesting has been done in about 3120 pucca government buildings and soak peat has been constructed in front of about 9695 tube wells. About 383 kitchen gardens have been built using waste water in various schools and hostels to reuse waste water in the district. Due to which fresh vegetables are available in schools and hostels. Along with this, about 19189 KLD water was made available through Mine Water Utilization, which benefited about 20 thousand farmers and provided irrigation system on 430 hectares. Livelihood program was started by starting boating in Kenapara, in which 156 beneficiaries were connected with livelihood work to make them financially empowered and district administration Surajpur has made a unique effort in the direction of water promotion. Apart from this, due to lack of proper water due to fluoride in the district, 4 plants were set up to provide pure drinking water, due to which people of the area have got clean and fluoride free water. Apart from this, biogas plants were set up in the district so that people were given free gas, instead of that only they have to pour waste water from their houses and dung locker plant.
