Rishi Kapoor’s daughter, Riddhima Kapoor Sahni will travel to Mumbai from Delhi by road to attend her father’s last rites.
Mumbai 30 April 2020 . Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor breahthed his last at Mumbai’s HN Reliance Hospital on April 30 morning. The actor died after a two-year long battle with leukemia. He was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday morning.
Rishi Kapoor is survived by his wife Neetu Singh and children, Ranbir Kapoor and Riddhima Kapoor Sahni.
Riddhima, who is based in Delhi, will travel to Mumbai to attend her father’s funeral. Since the nation is under a lockdown to stop the spread of the novel coronavirus, the celebrity daughter sought a movement pass from South-East Delhi DCP to be able to attend her father’s last rites. The permission was granted at 10.30 am today.
With flights and trains suspended, Riddhima will travel 1,400 kilometres by road to attend the funeral.
Rishi Kapoor will be cremated at the Chandanwadi Crematorium, Marine Lines, in Mumbai, his brother Randhir Kapoor told the media.
Earlier today, an official statement released by Rishi Kapoor’s family read, “Our dear Rishi Kapoor passed away peacefully at 8.45 am IST in hospital today after a two-year battle with leukemia. The doctors and medical staff said he kept them entertained to the last.
“He remained jovial and determined to live to the fullest right through two years of treatment across two continents. Family, friends, food and films remained his focus and everyone who met
him during this time was amazed at how he did not let his illness get the better of him.
“He was grateful for the love of his fans that poured in from the world over. In his passing, they would all understand that he would like to be remembered with a smile and not with tears.
“In this hour of personal loss, we also recognise the world is going through a very difficult and troubled time. There are numerous restrictions around movement and gathering in public. We would like to request all his fans and well-wishers and friends of the family to please respect the laws that are in force.
“He would not have it any other way.”
Rishi Kapoor was diagnosed with cancer in 2018, and spent a year in the US for treatment. He returned to India in September 2019.
