Raipur. March 2022. World Glaucoma Week will be celebrated in the state from 6th March to 12th March to make people aware about Glaucoma. During this, eyes of people above 40 years of age will be examined in all Primary Health Centers , Community Health Centers and District Hospitals . Free glasses will also be provided to those in need of glasses. Seminars will also be organized in Anganwadi centres , schools and community buildings to make people aware about this disease .

Glaucoma i.e. glaucoma (glaucoma) is a serious disease of the eyes , which sometimes also takes away the eyesight. While working on computers , laptops and mobiles, there is a lot of pressure on our eyes , but we do not take it seriously. Ignoring and carelessness of eye related problems gradually takes the form of a serious disease like glaucoma, which causes loss of eyesight . This disease is age borne as well as genetic.

This disease occurs because of the extra pressure on the eyes. This is a disease in which the water pressure inside the eye gradually increases and the vein of the eye starts drying up. This can make it difficult to see or even stop seeing. This condition is very dangerous as there is no cure for the blindness caused by drying of the vein.

Symptoms of Glaucoma

Pain in the head , especially in the evening, narrowing of the field of vision , that is, not seeing things around when looking straight , increased number of reading glasses , aura around the light and red eyes of glaucoma There are symptoms.

Early treatment will not aggravate the disease

Dr. Subhash Mishra , Director , Epidemic Control and State Program Officer of National Blindness Prevention and Low Vision Control Program in Health and Family Welfare Department, said that the damage caused by glaucoma cannot be compensated. Blindness can be avoided by timely diagnosis and treatment. He said that treatment can reduce eye pressure. This can also prevent the possibility of vision loss in the future.

Dr. Mishra told that the most common initial treatment of glaucoma is by putting medicine in the eyes. Other treatments include laser treatment or surgery. Glaucoma has to be treated for life and regular consultation with the doctor is required. After the age of 40 , every person should have their eyes examined by an ophthalmologist every year specifically for glaucoma. It can also be done at the nearest primary health center , community health center and district hospital.
