Raipur : Women who used to grow vegetables for domestic use are now cultivating them on a large scale in Gauthans

Badi Vikas Yojana strengthens the rural economy, paves the way for income

Raipur, 29 May 2023, Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel’s Suraji Gaon Yojana is proving to be quite beneficial for people living in rural regions. The Badi Vikas Yojana, under the Narva Garwa Ghurwa Badi Yojana, is playing a major role in strengthening the rural economy. It has carved an easy path for rural families to earn an income. Many families in the Koriya district have achieved success through the scheme. The women of Lakshmi Women’s Self-Help Group have sown crops like maize and tomatoes in Kushha Gauthan under the Badi Vikas Yojana in the Sonhat development block of the district. Anita, a member of the group, says that in the previous season, she had grown tomatoes at a cost of Rs. 1 thousand, which had earned her a profit of Rs. 7 thousand. She said that she used to cultivate vegetables at home for domestic use as per requirements. But now that she is associated with the group, she is earning a good income by growing vegetables on a large scale in Gauthan.

Similarly, the women of Pragati Women’s Self-Help Group are engaged in Badi work, as a result of which their economic condition has improved. The President of the group, Shamshun Nisha, said that she is engaged in various activities undertaken in the Gauthan. The Secretary of the group, Anjulata, said that they are working for Badi Development for the last 10 months. At present, they are cultivating brinjal, chillies, tomatoes, and herbs like aloe vera and lemongrass. They have earned an income of Rs. 70 thousand through the sale of these vegetables, and the profits are increasing continuously.

The women said that they are earning an appreciable income through this work and are fulfilling the financial needs of their families by becoming economically empowered.
