Union Minister for Home Affairs and Cooperation Shri Amit Shah held a review meeting with Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Shri Vishnu Deo Sai in New Delhi today on the implementation of three new criminal laws in the state. The implementation and current status of various new provisions related to police, prisons, courts, prosecution and forensics were reviewed in the meeting. The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Union Home Secretary, Chief Secretary, Chhattisgarh, Director General, BPR&D, Director General of Police, Chhattisgarh and Director, NCRB, including senior officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs and Government of Chhattisgarh.

In his address, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Shri Amit Shah said that there is a need to make the full implementation of the three new criminal laws brought under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in Chhattisgarh a top priority agenda and work in this direction. He said that the aim of the three new criminal laws is to improve the Indian judicial process and a state like Chhattisgarh needs this even more. He said that Chhattisgarh should take the complete implementation of the three new criminal laws as a challenge and implement them soon to become an ideal state.

Shri Amit Shah said that the Chhattisgarh government should fix accountability of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) level officers for filing chargesheets within 60 and 90 days. He said that in the new laws, the entire process from recording of evidence to the entire trial is possible through video conferencing, which will save a lot of manpower.

The Union Home Minister said that every police station and DSP level officer in Chhattisgarh should develop the habit of using NATGRID in cases of serious crime.
