State Level Vigilance and Monitoring Committee meeting of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989

A meeting of the State Level Vigilance and Monitoring Committee of the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 was held in the Chief Minister’s residence office. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel presided over the review meeting. In the meeting, the benefits available to the ST, SC category under various provisions and the resolution of cases registered under the Act-1989 in 2019, 2020 and 2021 were reviewed. Along with this, the relief amount sanctioned in 2019, 2020 and 2021 under the Act-1989 was also reviewed. In the said meeting, Home Minister Shri Tamradhwaj Sahu, Forest Minister Shri Mohammad Akbar, Scheduled Castes and Tribes Welfare Minister Dr. Premsai Singh Tekam, Parliamentary Secretary and Chief Secretary Shri Amitabh Jain, Home Secretary Shri Manoj Pingua, Departmental Secretary Shri D.D. Singh and Tribal and Scheduled Caste Development Commissioner Smt. Shammi Abidi were present. At the same time, Culture Minister Shri Amarjit Singh Bhagat and Director General of Police Shri Ashok Juneja along with other Parliamentary Secretaries joined through video conferencing.
The members also participated through online video conferencing in the meeting of the State Level Vigilance and Monitoring Committee constituted as per the provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1989. During the review meeting, Chief Minister Mr. Baghel while giving instructions for speedy disposal of pending cases with the police registered under the provisions of the 1989 Act, said that if there is delay in getting the permanent caste certificate made at the police investigation stage, then the concerned Gram Sabha will be contacted. It should be verified whether the victim belongs to SC/ST category or not. For this the Law Department, The Home Department and the Tribal and Scheduled Caste Development Department should coordinate and review it. The Law Department was asked to take necessary action to give instructions to make appropriate efforts from the level of Special Public Prosecutors for speedy disposal of cases registered in special courts. Chief Minister Shri Baghel also directed to issue necessary instructions to district collectors and sub-divisional officers to organize district level and subdivision level meetings as per the provisions of the Act.
