Of these, more than 10 thousand ration shops are operating in rural areas. Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, Raipur has been made the technical cooperation unit by the World Food Program for the fortification of fortified rice distributed under the public distribution system. Through the technology developed by Indira Gandhi Agricultural University for fortification of rice, units for making fortified rice have been installed in 100 units established across the state. Fortified rice containing iron, folic acid and vitamin B12 prepared in these 100 units is delivered to 2 thousand rice mills. Where in every 99 kg of normal rice, one kg of fortified rice is mixed and it is being delivered to the general public through the shops of the public distribution system. It was told in the workshop that due to lack of awareness among the public regarding the use of fortified rice, fortified rice is also cleaned by winnowing like ordinary rice and the husk is removed by boiling due to which the nutrients added to the fortified rice are lost. The element gets depleted. Therefore, there is a need to make the general public aware in this regard. Krishi Vigyan Kendra and National Service Scheme programs of Indira Gandhi Agricultural University can play an important role in this awareness campaign.
