 Chief Minister salutes him on the birth anniversary of Pandit Madhavrao Sapre

Raipur, 18 June 2020.Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel has paid him tribute on 19 June, the birth anniversary of Pandit Madhavrao Sapre, father and journalist of journalism in Chhattisgarh. The Chief Minister said in a message released here today that Sapreji gave a new direction to literature in Chhattisgarh with his writing. In 1900, when there was not enough facilities and technology for publication here, he started publishing the first monthly paper ‘Chhattisgarh Mitra’ in Chhattisgarh in collaboration with Vamanrao Lakhe ji and Shri Ramrao Chincholkar. He was engaged in literary practice all his life. The story ‘Basket Bhar Mitti’ composed by him is credited with being the first original story of Hindi. The Chief Minister said that his writing played an important role in public awareness even during the freedom struggle. Sapre ji’s invaluable contribution in developing national and literary consciousness will always be remembered.
