Important role of newspapers in bringing change in the society – Mr. Harichandan

Governor Shri Vishwabhushan Harichandan virtually participated in the National Convention of All India Small and Medium Newspaper Federation held in Bhubaneswar today. On this occasion, he said that newspapers have an important role in bringing change in the society.
In his address, the Governor said that the contribution of small newspapers in the Indian freedom struggle cannot be forgotten. The small newspaper played an important role in creating awareness and enthusiasm for freedom and fighting unitedly. The “Harijan” magazine edited by Mahatma Gandhi played a special role in taking the Swadeshi movement to the masses. Magazines like Young India used to fight against the British in the Indian independence movement as well as to make people aware of social evils.
The Governor said that India is the largest democracy in the world. And the press has an important role in a democracy. Everyone has equal rights in the constitution. Everyone has the right to express their views. Providing justice to the people should be our priority. When the fundamental rights of the people are violated, then the role of the press is important to fight against the exploitation and to get the rights of the people.
The Governor said that this conference is an important platform for exchange of knowledge among journalists and active role holders in the field of newspapers. He urged that the problems of the country should also be discussed in this conference. Focus on social problems through your newspapers and be active in bringing a change in the society. Discuss the issues of inequality, corruption, exploitation, education, health and development prevalent in the society through your articles and motivate people for solutions.
On this occasion, the office bearers of the Federation and the owners, editors and publishers of various small and medium newspapers from all over the country were present. The Governor also released a souvenir published by the Federation.
