Chhattisgarh Olympic Association inaugurates two-day state level sports shanty in Patan
Raipur, 20 February 2021. As per the wish of Chief Minister Shri Bhupesh Baghel, continuous efforts are being made to promote the traditional sports of Chhattisgarh. With a view to reviving and popularizing the traditional sports, Khel Mardi is being organized in Patan in Durg district for the first time. This game Madai, organized by the Chhattisgarh Olympic Association, started today. Many traditional sports of Chhattisgarh are being organized in this game, which people have forgotten.
There is a lot of excitement about the traditional games being held in Khel Mardi and a large number of villagers are coming to Khel Mardi to watch these games and to encourage the players. Due to the organization of traditional sports, this game has become a center of attraction and entertainment for the people in the entire Patan region. The inaugural function of Khel Madai was attended by the General Secretary of the Olympic Association, Mr. Gurucharan Singh Hora, Chief Minister OSD Ashish Verma, Director of Sports and Youth Welfare Department, Shweta Sinha, CEO of Olympic Association Mr. Bashir Ahmed Khan and other officials.
Kabaddi is being seen somewhere in the sports madai being organized in Patan, and langdi race is seen in a new form. In the same way, many other sports including kabaddi, khokho, fugdi, gilli danda, bumblebee are easily attracting the audience. All these sports related to the culture of the state were on the verge of extinction. In order to give life back to these games, Patan’s sports machine has become a lifeline. Seeing these games going on in Madai, the elderly begin to remember their teenage years, while the new generation of youth are getting the opportunity to learn and learn Chhattisgarhi traditional games. In this two-day event, around 800 players from all over the state are participating in 9 traditional games. Khel Mardi includes Gilli Danda, Kho-Kho, Pitthul, Sankhali, Kabbadi, Bumblebee etc. Apart from this, there are some sports in which people are getting a chance to see and hear for the first time.
