Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel has paid tribute to Chhattisgarh’s first woman MP Minimata on her death anniversary on August 11. The Chief Minister has said that the rich Minimata of simple and easy personality dedicated her whole life to human service. He played an important role in getting the Untouchability Prevention Act passed in Parliament to protect the civil rights of Dalits. He raised his voice from the society to the Parliament in protest against child marriage and dowry system. Minimata was also aware and cooperative towards labor interests and women’s education. He also did remarkable work in the direction of providing employment and industrial training opportunities to local residents in Bhilai Steel Plant.
Mr. Baghel said that Minimata, who was born in Assam, got settled in the public life of Chhattisgarh after marriage. He has given a new height to women’s identity. The Government of Chhattisgarh is running the ‘Minimata Mahtari Jatan Yojana’ to provide financial assistance for delivery to the laboring women of low income group of unorganized sectors. State level award is given in the name of Minimata for outstanding contribution in the field of society and women’s upliftment. The Hasdeo Bango dam in the state has been recognized as Minimata. The Chief Minister said that the service-oriented and inspirational personality of Minimata will always be remembered.
