Sarangarh is famous for Dussehra festival
In the princely state of Sarangarh, during the tenure of the then Raja Jawahir Singh, the Dussehra-festival of Sarangarh is very famous like Bastar-Dussehra since more than a century ago. In which apart from the burning of Ravana, bravery was demonstrated in the open ground in a public place among the common citizens in the mud stronghold. A large number of youths participated in this gallantry show with great enthusiasm. The citadel was made very smooth with a paste of mud and cow dung. The upper part of the citadel was furnished by giving it the form of a bastion of a palace. Which was originally made of clay. The participant buried the thorn-shaped iron paw in that ridged mound and climbed it slipping due to the wet soil. Some people used to climb above the citadel, who used to hit the climber on top of the fort with a stick, but the young man who reached the top first broke the citadel made of clay. He was rewarded by Raja Sahib with cash and shield. it is said that In the princely state of Sarangarh, such victorious bravehearts were recruited into the army. Only after this the work of burning Ravana was completed. This tradition is still prevalent today.
