Excise Commissioner Mr. Janak Prasad Pathak has directed the departmental flying squads and district officials to take strict action against possession, transportation and sale of illegal liquor by conducting a special campaign in view of the upcoming assembly elections-2023. Along with this, 31 checkposts of the Excise Department have been asked to keep a close watch on illegal liquor transportation.
It is worth mentioning that after the instructions of the Election Commission of India, the process of speedy action has started in the Excise Department. Under the guidance of the Excise Commissioner, intensive search operations and investigation proceedings are being carried out in the check posts of the border areas of the state. On the last two days, 26 and 27 August, 191 persons who were transporting and selling liquor illegally were arrested by conducting an intensive action campaign. In these cases, a total of 2340 liters of liquor worth Rs 15 lakh 59 thousand 300 was seized. In this way, 37230 kg Mahua Lahan has been seized, whose market value is Rs 5 lakh 09 thousand 132. During the campaign, 08 two-wheelers have been seized, whose market value is Rs 3 lakh 80 thousand. During the campaign, 83 liters of liquor from other provinces have also been seized.
Commissioner of Excise Department Mr. Pathak said that in 31 checkposts of the Excise Department established in the border districts of the state, regular checking of vehicles is being done to prevent illegal liquor from other states. In the said two days, 90 liters of liquor has been seized during the investigation in the checkposts of the Excise Department. Along with this, road checking is being done at various places. The investigation is also going on at various railway stations, trains, bus stands and buses by the Excise staff in collaboration with the Railway Police and the State Police.
The Excise Commissioner said that in view of the upcoming assembly elections-2023, the Excise Department is continuously checking and monitoring all the distilleries, bottling units, breweries and all country and foreign liquor shops. In addition, illegal storage of liquor. Continuous monitoring is being done by identifying possible places of transport. Toll free number 14405 is being operated by the department, on which any kind of complaint related to illegal liquor/liquor shops can be registered. The name of the complainant is kept confidential.
