Assembly Speaker Dr. Charandas Mahant unveiled the statue of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore and laid the foundation stone of Tagore Vatika and Museum at Gorela-Pendra-Marwahi district hospital complex today on the occasion of 162nd birth anniversary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore. He inaugurated the newly constructed Hummer Lab on the occasion. On this occasion, in the series of Bisahu Das Mahant Ji’s Birth Centenary Year Celebrations, courtesy of the Indian Cultural Fund, a wonderful presentation of “Rabindra Sangeet” was given by linguist and musicologist Dr. Chittaranjan Kar on the birth anniversary of poet Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore.
Addressing the program, Dr. Mahant said that Rabindranath Tagore was a great person. His memory is attached to this area. He had come to the sanatorium in September 1902 to get his wife Mrinalini Devi treated for tuberculosis. He spent a lot of time recuperating his wife. Dr. Mahant said that Rabindranath Tagore had given Gandhi the title of ‘Mahatma’. Tagore ji is a world famous poet, litterateur, philosopher and Nobel laureate of Indian literature. He is also known as Gurudev. He was the visionary who breathed new life into the Indian cultural consciousness through Bangla literature. He is the first Nobel laureate of Asia.
On this occasion, Revenue Minister and in-charge of the district Mr. Jai Singh Agarwal, Korba MP Mrs. Jyotsna Mahant, Marwahi MLA Dr. K.K. Dhruv, Pali-Tanakhar MLA Mr. Mohit Kerketta, Sonhat MLA Mr. Gulab Singh Kamro, State Scheduled Tribes Commission member Mrs. Archana Porte, State Youth Commission member Mr. Uttam Vasudev, State Madarsa Board member Mr. Shahid Raine and several three-tier Panchayati Raj Institutions. People’s representatives, dignitaries were present.
