Important decisions will be taken in the direction of tobacco control

The percentage of tobacco users in the state is 39.1. Along with this, 8 percent of the school going children in the age group of 13 to 15 years have also come under the grip of tobacco. It’s a topic of concern Special efforts are being made by the government to discourage the use of tobacco and tobacco products among the common people. Showing seriousness on this, efforts are being made through the tobacco control program in the state, so that the state of Chhattisgarh can be made a tobacco-free state. In this sequence, a meeting of the State Level Coordination Committee has been organized on March 29, 2023, with the aim of taking concrete steps towards tobacco control. This meeting, to be held in the meeting room of Mantralaya, Naya Raipur, will be presided over by the Chief Secretary, Government of Chhattisgarh, along with senior officers of the state will be present in this meeting.
According to the guidelines of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, a State Level Coordination Committee has been constituted for the implementation of the National Tobacco Control Program and the provisions of the COTPA Act, 2003. In this meeting, along with the review of the decisions taken in the previous meetings of the committee, a future strategy will be prepared for tobacco control in the state.
These will be included in the meeting:- Panchayat and Rural Development Department, Finance Department, Health and Family Welfare Department, National Health Mission, Agriculture Department, Public Relations Department, Law Department, Home Jail Department, Transport Department under the Government of Chhattisgarh in the meeting on March 29. School Education Department, Labor Department, District Collector of Raipur and Bilaspur district, representative of Railways, senior technical advisor of The Union and representatives of social organizations working in the field of tobacco control will be present.
