Raipur: State Government is committed to empower handloom weavers: Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel

Raipur, 7 August 2021. Chief Minister Shri Bhupesh Baghel presented student incentive awards to the meritorious students of weaver families in a virtual program organized at his residence office here today on the occasion of National Handloom Day. The program was organized by Chhattisgarh State Handloom Development and Marketing Cooperative Federation. Khadi and Village Industries Minister Guru Shri Rudra Kumar, President of Chhattisgarh State Handloom Development and Marketing Cooperative Federation Shri Motilal Devangan, Chairman of State Mineral Development Corporation Shri Girish Devangan, Chief Secretary Shri Amitabh Jain also participated in the programme.
Congratulating all the weaving families of the state on National Handloom Day, Chief Minister Shri Bhupesh Baghel said that the Swadeshi movement was one of the major movements during the freedom struggle. Our freedom fighters took an active part in promoting indigenous industries, indigenous sentiments. Handloom weavers have played an important role in socio-economic development. We are all determined to empower the handloom weavers and laborers through maximum opportunities. The Chief Minister said that handloom work has an important role in women empowerment. I am happy that the responsibility of the welfare and development of handloom weavers in Chhattisgarh has been entrusted to the Sangh. He is taking it very seriously. More than 60 thousand people are getting employment in the business of handloom weavers. It is a matter of happiness that in the last two and a half years, clothes worth 745 crores have been supplied to the government departments through the Sangh, due to which a remuneration of 220 crores has been paid to the weavers.
Giving information about the steps being taken for the welfare of handloom weavers in the state, Chief Minister Shri Bhupesh Baghel said that Raj Rajeshwari Karuna Mata Protsahan Puraskar Yojana has been started in June 2020 to encourage weaving art. Under this, a reward of Rs 1 lakh is being given to two weavers who produce cotton garments on handlooms every year. During the Kovid period, 7 thousand weavers have been paid a remuneration of Rs 8 crore. It is a matter of happiness that the Sangh is also doing work for the welfare of the weavers’ family members. In this sequence, today sons and daughters of weavers’ families are being rewarded for their success in the field of education. Awards are being given to 623 children of 14 districts of the state. 4000 to 20 to these talented students, The prize money is being given up to Rs. Surely it will prove to be helpful in this corona period. The Chief Minister wished all the children a bright future.
