The swine flu virus, caused by H-1N-1 Influenza ‘A’, is spread through airborne particles and contact with infected objects. Caution is necessary to prevent its spread. The symptoms of swine flu are also similar to the symptoms of corona. These include cough, mucus, sore throat or sore throat, cold and some people get breathless due to infection in the lungs. Persons who are experiencing such symptoms should immediately get tested for corona along with swine flu.

Director Epidemic Control, Dr. Subhash Mishra told about the causes and symptoms of swine flu that swine flu is caused by H-1N-1 (H1N1) Influenza ‘A’. This virus spreads through airborne particles and touching infected objects. Its transition period is seven days. During the rainy season, the elderly, pregnant women and children are more prone to infection at a faster rate. Especially those suffering from heart disease, respiratory disease, liver disease, kidney disease, diabetes, HIV and cancer or patients who have been taking steroid medicine for a long time are at higher risk.

Dr. Mishra told that the infected person had high fever with cough, runny nose, sore throat, headache, body ache, tiredness, vomiting, diarrhea, chest pain, fall in blood pressure, mucus with blood and nails. Turning blue can be a symptom of swine flu. To prevent this, he has advised not to go to crowded places, to stay away from contact with infected person and to wash hands regularly with soap or handwash. Also, handkerchiefs and clothes used by people with cold-cough and cold should not be used. If the symptoms of swine flu are found, the victim must see a doctor within 24 to 48 hours.

Swine flu test facility is available in all the medical colleges of the state. It can be treated in primary health centres, community health centres, civil hospitals, district hospitals and medical college hospitals. Influenza vaccine is used to prevent swine flu just as there is a vaccine available to protect against corona. Serious problems caused by swine flu can be avoided with this vaccine.
