According to the intention of the Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel, special initiatives are being taken to promote the bamboo industry in Chhattisgarh including the plantation of Katang bamboo. Under this, under the action plan being prepared by the Forest Department, it will start with the plantation of Katang bamboo in about two lakh acres. 
A detailed presentation regarding bamboo plantation and utility was given by the Forest Department in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mr. Baghel at his residence office here this evening. During the presentation, it was told that Chhattisgarh has vast potential for bamboo plantation and its industry. In view of this, as per the instructions of Chief Minister Mr. Baghel, a detailed action plan is being prepared for the promotion of bamboo plantation and its industry in Chhattisgarh. This action plan will prove to be instrumental in improving the environment including making farmers prosperous and mitigating the effects of climate change. 
In the presentation by the Forest Department, it was told in the meeting that bamboo cultivation is very profitable. It is also a better alternative to timber. At present, it has a wide international market and its demand is increasing continuously. Bamboo industry is helpful in creating many types of employment. Its planting is often spent only once and is unaffected by weather, so there is little scope for damage. It is especially beneficial for water conservation and soil conservation. Bamboo plantation is beneficial for the environment, it is also helpful in increasing greenery and balancing the temperature. 
Forest and Climate Change Minister Mr. Mohammad Akbar, Parliamentary Secretaries, Mr. Shishupal Sori and Mr. Chandradev Rai, Advisor to the Chief Minister, Mr. Pradeep Sharma and Principal Secretary, Forest Department, Mr. Manoj Pingua, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Mr. V.K. Srinivasa Rao and departmental officers Mr. Alok Tiwari, Mr. Dilraj Prabhakar, Mr. Mayank Agarwal and bamboo entrepreneur Mr. Debopam Mukherjee etc. were present.
