Chief Secretary Mr. Amitabh Jain has instructed the collectors of all the districts of the state to take necessary action by running a special campaign from August 28 to September 3 to prevent accidents caused by cattle on the roads. He has asked the collectors to conduct surprise inspections on the roads. The Chief Secretary today directed Mantralaya Mahanadi Bhavan to ensure necessary action regarding prevention of accidents caused by animals on the roads in compliance with the order of the Hon’ble High Court. In the meeting, the collectors told that due to animals accidents have been identified on the roads. In all gram panchayats and urban bodies, constant monitoring is being done on the domesticated and stray animals coming on the roads. Animals are being tagged and radium belts are being installed. The animals are being removed from the roads and kept safe by taking them to Gaushalas, Gauthans and Kanjihouses. Vaccination of animals is also being done. Such animals whose owners are not coming to take them are also being auctioned. Cattle owners are being advised not to leave their animals on the roads. Accidents happen when animals come on the roads. Due to which there is loss of public money. Animal parents are also being told that if their animals are found on the roads, they will be fined. The district officials said that through the District Road Safety Committee, after analyzing the animal-borne road accidents that happened in the quarter, necessary action is being taken by fixing the responsibility for the same. Officials said that the action being taken to stop cattle on the roads has started yielding good results. In the meeting, the collectors gave detailed information about the condition of Gothans, Gaushalas and Kanjihouses in their district. Collectors told that all necessary action is being taken to take cooperation of animal parents, public representatives, voluntary organizations and social workers to ensure public participation to prevent animals from coming on the roads.
