With the launch of Chhattisgarh Millet Mission by the state government, the farmers of Vananchal are enthusiastic about its cultivation due to the announcement of purchase of Kodo-Kutki and Ragi at support price. Farmers are increasingly engaged in sowing Kodo-Kutki and Ragi. So far sowing of Kodo-Kutki and Ragi has been completed in 92 thousand 120 hectares in the current Kharif season. This year the target is to sow it in one lakh one thousand 840 hectares in the state, which is about 25 thousand hectares more as compared to 71 thousand 290 hectares in the last Kharif season. Under Mission Millet, farmers are also being given necessary information and training by the officials of Agriculture Department and Krishi Vigyan Kendra for improved cultivation of Kodo-Kutki and Ragi.
It is worth noting that the demand for millets in the country and abroad is good and gets a good price. Chhattisgarh Mission Millet has been started on the initiative of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel to promote Kodo-Kutki and Ragi production in the state, so that farmers can be encouraged to cultivate it in an improved way. Under this, an MoU has been signed between the Indian Institute of Millet Research Hyderabad and 14 millet producing districts of the state on September 10 to increase the productivity of millets, including Kanker, Kondagaon, Bastar, Dantewada, Bijapur, Sukma, Narayanpur, Rajnandgaon. , Kawardha, Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi, Balrampur, Koriya, Surajpur and Jashpur districts. Chhattisgarh is the first state in the country, which has declared the support price of Kodo-Kutki at Rs 3000 and Ragi at Rs 3377 per quintal.
