Raipur: Solar Irrigation Pump is helpful in the prosperity of farmers

Saur Sujala Yojana for the agriculture-oriented state of Chhattisgarh is proving to be very helpful in providing irrigation facility to the farmers of Vananchal and remote areas and bringing positive changes in their lives. In order to increase the irrigation potential of agricultural land and to increase the irrigated area of ​​​​agriculture in un-electrified areas, solar pumps of three and five horse-power capacity are being installed in the land of the farmers of Saur Sujala Yojana, operated by CREDA. So far more than one lakh farmers of the state have got irrigation facility in one lakh 20 hectares with the help of solar irrigation pump installed through this scheme. Due to this, about 6 lakh 55 thousand tonnes of carbon emissions have been reduced.
Taking advantage of the irrigation facility provided through Saur Sujala Yojana, farmers have now started doing two-crop farming. Solar pumps installed under Saur Sujala are playing an important role in changing the condition and direction of farmers’ lives. Farmers have started cultivating profitable crops. Shri Sheshram Yadav, a farmer of Targaon of Makdi development block of Kondagaon district, has established his identity as a progressive farmer by taking advantage of Saur Sujala Yojana. In the year 2019-20, he had to spend only 16 thousand rupees for installing solar pumps under Saur Sujala Yojana of Chhattisgarh government, the remaining amount was borne by the Chhattisgarh government. Last year, he earned a net profit of about 50 thousand rupees by cultivating maize. This year he has planted paddy as well as bitter gourd and chilli crops in his five acres of land. With the arrangement of irrigation, now he can grow both Rabi and Kharif crops as well as chilli, brinjal, Vegetables including tomatoes are being cultivated, due to which their annual income has increased from Rs.05 to Rs.06 lakhs. Due to this, Sesharam has also bought tractor this year. He believes that irrigation facility and crop diversification are necessary to change the condition of farmers. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel for the provision of giving input subsidy of Rs 10 thousand per acre to the farmers of the state under the Rajiv Gandhi Kisan Nyay Yojana for the farmer friendly policy of Chhattisgarh government and for cultivation of other Kharif crops in lieu of paddy.
