Raipur, 30 September 2020. Vice Chancellor of Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, Dr. SK A team of soil scientists led by Patil has developed a low-cost mobile soil test kit to test the soil of the fields with the help of which the farmers will be able to examine the available nutrients in the soil of their fields. The technology of this soil testing kit developed by the Agricultural University has been awarded a patent certificate by the Government of India. This is a significant achievement for Indira Gandhi Agricultural University and the state of Chhattisgarh. With the help of this convenient and easy to use field, this kit allows the farmers to make available nitrogen in their soil, You can determine the amount of manure and fertilizers required for agricultural and horticultural crops by examining the organic carbon and soil acidicity or alkalinity, along with the primary nutrients required for plants like Sphur and Potash. Commercial production of this kit will be started soon by the Agricultural University.
Vice Chancellor Dr. SK Under the leadership of Patil, who is himself a soil scientist, the team of soil scientists who developed the technology of this mobile soil testing kit, Dr. Lk Srivastava, Dr. Vn Mishra and Dr. Ro Slaves are included. The instruction manual and CD given with this soil test kit weighing about two and a half kilos. With the help of the farmers themselves, they can check the available nutrients in the soil of their fields. This test kit includes chemical fluids, acids, chemical powders of various concentrations, filter paper, plastic stands, test tubes, funnels, distilled water, Color charts etc. are given. The amount of nutrients available in the soil can be detected based on the depth of dyes that are developed using different types of chemicals in soil samples. The method of calculating the required quantity of fertilizers for major crops based on soil test results and fertilizer recommendations is also given in the booklet. Based on soil testing, farmers will be able to determine the required quantity of urea, super phosphate, potash and lime required for various crops.
It is noteworthy that the Government of India is giving a health health card to the farmers all over the country after testing the soil of their fields. In the health health card, which nutrient is deficient in the farm, it is clearly mentioned. Soil testing centers have been established in all the district headquarters of Chhattisgarh from where it takes four to five days to get the results and there is a separate expenditure in the transportation. Portable soil testing kits will now eliminate farmers’ reliance on soil testing laboratories. This will bring revolutionary changes in the field of agriculture in the future.
