Women are being linked to cluster farming under the Lakhpati Didi scheme of the government. These are being linked to the activities of vegetable production, poultry farming and maize production. Three activities so that through all three the figure of their economic income touches the figure of lakhs. Women of village Badalur Vananchal of Kondagaon development block are becoming successful business with housewives. This is the story of Usha, a resident of Badalur. The one who had the responsibility of the whole house, today she is fulfilling the responsibility of her family very well by becoming a successful businessman. Usha told that she used to work in other’s house, now she is producing vegetables herself. She is selling gourd for more than Rs 1000 per week from vegetable and there are possibilities of earning 12 to 15 thousand from gourd cultivation in the coming time. Usha also produces vegetables according to the season in her fields.
He told that minor forest produce like mahua, sal, seeds, tamarind, taura are also collected and sold. Due to which they get additional income of 10 to 12 thousand rupees. Usha Korram became an inspiration for other women of the village today by cultivating vegetables.
This change in Usha’s life came after joining the morning program. Bihaan’s BPM Rainu Netam told that through Bihaan, women were motivated to work by forming self-help groups. Ten women together formed Gauri Self-Help Group and Usha also became its member.
Before joining the group, she came from a poor family and used to take care of all the household chores. For which Usha had to work as a laborer at someone else’s place and used to run her household only by cultivating paddy in the traditional way in the ancestral farm. In such a situation, by joining the group, the officers were informed about the selection of 05 villages as Integrated Farming Cluster under ‘Lakhpati Didi’ initiative under Jai Maa Karma Cluster Organization Mardapal. In which 250 farmers from 05 villages were to be associated with three activities of maize production, vegetable production, forest produce collection and backyard poultry work. Village Badalur was selected from the selected villages. Usha Korram of Gauri Self-Help Group started vegetable production. Together with the group, started cultivation of bottle gourd in five decimals. Now she has become a successful housewife as well as a successful businessman.
