Raipur, 17 August 2020In the presence of Chief Minister Shri Bhupesh Baghel, an MoU was signed today for the establishment of the first production unit of defense category industry in Chhattisgarh. This industrial unit will produce bulletproof jackets and helmets for various Armed Forces of the Government of India viz. Army, BSF, CRPF and State Government Armed Forces.
In a brief ceremony held at the Chief Minister’s residence, the MoU was signed between the Chhattisgarh government’s Department of Industries and the company which set up an industrial unit of defense products, Messrs Atmastco Limited, Durg. Industries Minister Mr. Kavasi Lakhma was also present on the occasion. This unit of defense products will be set up in Birebhanth village in Durg district of Chhattisgarh. A capital investment of about Rs 87.50 crore will be made by the company in this unit. About 150 persons will get employment through this industry. In the first phase, this industrial unit of defense products will produce one lakh bulletproof jackets and helmets. Chief Minister Mr. Baghel congratulated and congratulated the officials of Messrs Atmastco Limited and Industries Department for the establishment of this unit.
In the MoU, Mr. Manoj Kumar Pingua, Principal Secretary, Department of Industries and M.D. of M / s Atmastco Limited. Signed by Mr. S. Swaminathan. Principal Secretary Mr. Pingua informed that in the new industrial policy of the Government of Chhattisgarh, defense category industries have been placed in high priority category. A technical contract has been signed with DRDO for this first unit to be established in Chhattisgarh. MD of M / s Atmastco Limited Mr. S. Swaminathan informed that production will start in this unit by November.
A contract has been signed with the Government of India on 25 March 2019 for defense technology under license and agreement by M / s Atmastco Limited, Durg, under which this unit to be set up under various armed forces of the Government of India like the Army, BSF, CRPF and the State Government Permission has been issued on 5 May 2020 to manufacture bulletproof jackets and helmets for the Armed Forces. The MOU has been executed today by the State Government in the context of the license given by the Government of India for setting up this industry.
On this occasion, Chief Secretary Shri R.P. Mandal, Additional Chief Secretary Mr. Subrata Sahu, Principal Secretary Industries Mr. Manoj Kumar Pingua, Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. Siddharth Komal Pardeshi, Secretary General Administration Dr. Kamalpreet Singh, Director, Industries Mr. Anil Tuteja, CSIDC Managing Director Mr. Arun Kumar including Commerce and Industry Special Secretary of the Department Mr. VK Chabalani, Deputy Secretary in Chief Minister’s Secretariat Ms. Soumya Chaurasia, Investors of M / s Atmastco Ltd. Shri S. Swaminathan, Director Mr. Venkataraman, Vice President Mr. KL Balasubramaniam were present. M / s Atmastco Limited, Durg is a reputed unit, which has been in operation for the past 35 years. The unit currently manufactures heavy fabrication such as bridges etc. and employs about 600 people.
