With the meaningful initiative of Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel, accessible health services are reaching the poor people of Chhattisgarh. Expansion of health facilities has been the topmost priority of Chief Minister Mr. Baghel. For this, generic medicine shops are being operated in all the urban bodies of the state under the Shri Dhanwantri Generic Medical Store Scheme. In these shops, generic medicines of renowned companies of the country are available at 50 to 70 percent less price. Medicines for cold, cough, fever, blood pressure, insulin along with serious diseases, antibiotics, surgical items are also being made available to the needy at subsidized prices in Dhanwantri medicine shops. 
On the initiative of Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel, the Shri Dhanwantri Generic Medical Store scheme has been started by the Urban Administration and Development Department from October 20, 2021. Under the scheme, 194 Shree Dhanwantri Medical Stores have been opened in all the 169 urban bodies of the state. It has been made mandatory for the government doctors to prescribe generic medicines to the patients coming for treatment in the hospital. 135.33 crore M.R.P. from the scheme so far. A rebate of Rs 81 crore 97 lakh has been given to the needy people on the sale of medicines. It is worth mentioning that more than 44 lakh 48 thousand citizens have bought cheap medicines from Dhanvantari generic medical shops operating in various urban bodies of the state. Due to which people have got a lot of relief and savings are being made due to the availability of medicines at low prices. Urban Administration Minister Dr. monitoring the availability of medicines and operation system in Shri Dhanwantri generic medical stores. Shivkumar keeps on doing Dahriya. He has directed the departmental officers to continuously make all necessary arrangements to make available high quality generic medicines at subsidized rates for health facilities to the citizens.

Shubham Mishra, who came to buy medicines at Mahasamund’s Dhanwantari Medical Store, told that medicines costing 400-450 are available here for 160-170 on other medicals. Now he and his family, friends and neighbors also buy medicines for diseases from here. Some medicines are not available but essential medicines are available at low cost. Same Mohammad reached to buy medicines for his mother, he also called Dhanwantari Medical as a life giver for the poor. So Savitri Sahu, who is suffering from cold fever of Bagbahra, told that very expensive medicines are given at other medical centers, but here the same medicine is available at low cost. This is also saving money. The operators of the stores say that this year many sufferers came to take medicines for seasonal diseases. The medicines which are not available are taken and made available later.
Sapan Kumar Saha, who came to buy medicines at Chirmiri Municipal Corporation Chirmiri store, says that I come here to buy medicines for my parents, earlier I had to spend 9 to 10 thousand on medicines, here I get only 4-5 effective medicines of the same formula. Available in thousands. On the other hand, Kalavati of Godripara told that I used to get medicines for BP, sugar and thyroid up to Rs.500 per week, but here I have got medicines for Rs.250, due to which I am saving a lot.
Urban Administration Department officials told that 19 in Raipur district, four in Gariaband, seven in Balodabazar-Bhatapara, seven in Dhamtari, six in Mahasamund, 18 in Durg, eight in Balod, eight in Bemetara, five in Rajnandgaon, Khairagarh-Chhuikhadan Three Dhanwantari generic medical stores are being operated in Gandai, one in Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh, six in Kabirdham, 10 in Bilaspur and two in Gorela-Pendra-Marwahi district. Similarly, four in Mungeli, six in Korba, nine in Janjgir-Champa, six in Sakti, eight in Raigarh, five in Sarangarh-Bilaigarh, five in Jashpur, four in Surguja, five in Balrampur, six in Surajpur, two in Korea Five in Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur, three in Bastar, three in Kondagaon, one in Narayanpur, six in Kanker, Five Dhanwantari generic medical stores are being operated in Dantewada, three in Sukma and two in Bijapur district. It has been made mandatory for the government doctors to prescribe generic medicines to the patients coming for treatment in the hospital.
