Raipur, 07 January 2021. A virtual webinar was organized today by the State Planning Commission on the theme ‘Sustainable Development Goals’. In the webinar, Deputy Chairman of State Planning Commission Mr. Ajay Singh, Member Dr. K. Subramaniam, Member Secretary Shri Anup Kumar Sharma, Advisor to the Chief Minister Mr. Pradeep Sharma, 450 participants including teachers and vice-chancellors of state universities and higher educational institutions. The purpose of organizing the webinar is to make the teacher and student community aware of the Sustainable Development Goals.
Shri Ajay Singh said that last month the Commission has signed MoUs with universities and higher educational institutions. This webinar is being organized as the first episode. He called upon the Vice Chancellors and students of universities that they can play an important role in accomplishing the goals of SDGs in the state. Mr. Singh also asked all the student communities to make their active contribution in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Adviser to the Chief Minister Shri Pradeep Sharma spoke about the development of the Sustainable Development Goal and its potential in the state. He also informed about compatibility with the plans of the state government and their sustainable development goals.
Efforts are being made to provide good health services to women. Vice Chancellor of Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, Dr. Sanjay Patil said that the eleven goals of SDG agenda are related to agriculture which will provide an opportunity to work in the field of public welfare in this sector. Students will also be able to benefit from today’s workshop and contribute their technical and knowledge skills to achieve the SDG objective. He informed that scientists of Indira Gandhi Agricultural University have developed biofortified variety of grains which will help in reducing the problem of malnutrition. Students also expressed their views enthusiastically in the webinar.
The Sustainable Development Goals were adopted on 25 September 2015 by the ‘Transforming Our World: 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development’ resolution by 193 nations at the General Assembly of the United Nations. This agenda includes 17 Sustainable Development Goals and 169 targets. These include goals such as poverty, hunger, eradication of deprivation, good health, nutrition and welfare, ensuring quality education, reducing gender and other disparities, providing clean water and sanitation, appropriate climate action, etc. The state of Chhattisgarh is also committed to work towards achieving these goals.
