Raipur, 24 October 2021. In the state of Chhattisgarh, a target of cultivating pulses and oilseeds crops has been set in 2 lakh 80 thousand hectares as Utera. According to the intention of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, a special campaign will be conducted to encourage farmers to take up the cultivation of pulses and oilseeds. The Agriculture Production Commissioner has issued detailed guidelines in this regard to all the divisional commissioners, collectors, district level officers of the Department of Agriculture, Horticulture.
Agriculture Production Commissioner has said that traditionally pulses and oilseeds crops are taken as land on a large scale in the state. From the point of view of protection of land crops and Rabi crops in the state, the program of roka-cheka of animals will continue till the Rabi season. Gauthans have been established in the villages with the aim of stopping the practice of open grazing of animals, where livestock fodder and water have also been arranged by the Gauthan committees.
Cultivation of landed crops In the rainfed area, 20-25 days before the harvesting of paddy crop, seeds of pulses, oilseed crops are sown in the standing paddy crop by sprinkling method. Presently the paddy crop is in mature stage. Tivda, linseed, rye-mustard gong, urad, lentil, safflower crops are grown in Utera. Tivda is the main crop of Utera in the state. Mahativada, Ratan and Pratik improved varieties of Utera have been developed by Indira Gandhi Agricultural University.
The Agriculture Production Commissioner has asked the departmental officers to advise the farmers to choose varieties of short duration and drought tolerant crops of Utera. He has also directed the officers to ensure the availability of good quality seeds of crops to be taken as land in coordination with the Seed Corporation in primary cooperative societies and private sector. For the purpose of giving information and encouragement to the farmers for the cultivation of land crops, through Kotwar, to conduct publicity in regular villages, wide publicity in the targeted area through field officers and to give technical advice through Krishi Vigyan Kendra.
