Post mortem is done in case of death or suspected medico-legal case of corona infection
Raipur. 12 September 2020. On the same day, on 11 September, after the police gave an application for post mortem, the autopsy of the corona-infected woman’s body was held in the mortuary of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial Hospital since last September. It is noteworthy that Smt Anita Dhedhi, a 29-year-old girl from Rewaan village, was brought dead on 1 September at Rims Hospital, Godhi. After being declared dead by the doctors there, the body’s Panchnama was processed and sent to the Community Health Center Arang for postmortem. After the deceased was found corona positive, the body was brought from the orangutan and kept at Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Hospital in Raipur.
Joint Director and Superintendent of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Hospital said that after bringing the body to Raipur, police of the police station of the concerned area and the family of the deceased were called to identify the body, they expressed inability to identify it. Post mortem cannot be done by family and police without identifying the dead body and without a post mortem application. Three days ago, when the body was identified by those people, the police refused to get the postmortem citing being corona positive.
The hospital superintendent said that the application was made on September 9 through Mandir Hasaud police station in-charge for not conducting the post-mortem. It was written that due to being a corona positive case there is no need to do post mortem of the dead body. Whereas post-mortem will be mandatory in case of Kovid positive patients dying in medico-legal case or suspicious circumstances as per the guidelines issued by the government. Finally, on September 11, after the application for postmortem was made by the police, a post-mortem was done before the family on the same day and Bisra was sent for investigation through the police. He said that post mortem is a mandatory process of medico-legal case in death under suspicious circumstances. If the body was delivered to the next of kin without post mortem, then there would be contempt of medical-legal cases related to the deceased in future.
