Raipur, 12 February 2022. Under the guidance of Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Rakesh Chaturvedi and Member Secretary Arun Pandey, as per the instructions of Forest and Climate Change Minister Mohammad Akbar, a one-day Asian Water Bird Census was organized by the Forest Department, Bilaspur on February 12 at Kopra Reservoir. In this program, by counting the species of water birds, successfully counting birds and types of species were written through online e-bird app. The event, which lasted from 7 am to 10 am, saw 115 species of water birds like Red Crested Pochard, 2 species of Kingfisher, Cormorant, Little Greb, Ferruginias Badakh, among others.
The Asian Water Bird Census Program is being organized at the national level across the country. This program was organized in Chhattisgarh under the guidance of Arun Bharos. Forest Divisional Officer Mr. Kumar Nishant from Bilaspur Forest Department, Forest Divisional Officer of Achanakmar Amarkantak Biosphere Reserve, Mr. Vishnu Nair were mainly present in the program. In addition, research scholars from Guru Ghasidas University, Fergus Mark Anthony, Mr. Alok Chandrakar, Ms. Aakriti Tamrakar, Dr. Himanshu Gupta also made their special contribution and all the participants, Yash Nirmalkar, Abhijit Sharma etc. participated enthusiastically.
