Raipur: On the death of MNREGA workers, their dependents will get a compassionate grant of one lakh rupees: State MNREGA office issued revised circular to collectors

Raipur. 10 July 2021.  MNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) Compassionate grant of one lakh rupees will be provided to the dependents of the personnel who die during the service period. The state MNREGA office has issued a revised circular in this regard to all the Collectors-cum-District Program Coordinators (MNREGA). In the circular issued earlier, instead of the daily wage earners and contract workers working in MNREGA, the word ‘personnel and labor’ was wrongly mentioned.

State MGNREGA Commissioner Mr. Mohammad Kaiser Abdulhaq has said in the circular issued to all the collectors that the instructions given in the MGNREGA Operational Guidelines-2013 issued by the Union Ministry of Rural Development and the circular issued by the General Administration Department of the Government of Chhattisgarh in the year 2019 . According to Mahatma Gandhi, such deceased daily wage earners or direct recruitment contractual employees (except retired employees) who have completed two years of continuous service , a lump sum amount of one lakh rupees to the nominated member of their dependent family. There is a provision to be given in the form of “Compassionate Grant”.

The MNREGA Commissioner has said in the revised circular that in compliance of these instructions, on the death of the employees appointed under MNREGA and who have completed two years of service, one lakh as compassionate grant from the administrative head of the scheme to the nominated member of their dependent family. A lump sum amount of Rs. This instruction will be deemed to be effective from the date of issue.
