President Smt. Draupadi Murmu, on the occasion of the third convocation of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Memorial Health Sciences and Ayush University, on the second day of her Chhattisgarh visit today, said that developed Chhattisgarh will play a very important role in making India a developed nation by the year 2047. Good health of citizens is important for overall development. Good health helps in increasing the productivity and creativity of people. President Smt. Murmu attended the third convocation of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Memorial Health Sciences and Ayush University and awarded 33 gold medals to 25 students of the institute and the title of Super Specialist to 6 students.

The Governor said that this is a symbol of tireless efforts, sacrifice and dedication of the students. This is not only an academic achievement for the students but also an excellent start on the path of human service. The Chief Minister said that health services are being rapidly expanded in the remote areas of Chhattisgarh, where the need for newly trained doctors is being met. On this occasion, Governor Shri Ramen Deka, Assembly Speaker Shri Raman Singh, Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai, Health Minister Shri Shyam Bihari Jaiswal, Vice Chancellor of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Smriti Health Science and AYUSH University Shri Pradeep Kumar Patra, Registrar, students of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Smriti Health Science and AYUSH University and their families were present. On the occasion of this convocation of the university, 6337 doctors will be awarded degrees. These include 6 superspecialist doctors, 606 postgraduate doctors and 5725 graduate doctors. Apart from this, 25 doctors were decorated with gold medals.

The President said that sickle cell anaemia is still a problem in tribal society. The Government of India is working towards eradicating sickle cell anaemia. He said that health workers are on the front line. You can make common people aware of health problems, you can make common citizens aware of the efforts being made by the government. You can act as a bridge between the policy makers and the honourable public. He told the students that by going to rural areas you will be able to know the real problems of a very large population of the country. I want that all the students should be posted in the community health centres of the village from time to time.

Mrs. Murmu said that most of the people of Chhattisgarh live in villages, and providing proper health facilities to them is a challenging task. In this context, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Smriti Health Science and AYUSH University has an important role. This university has been established to promote medical education, training and health in the state. Solution of health problems is one of the main goals of this university. It is a matter of happiness that along with modern medicine, AYUSH education is also provided in the university and its affiliated colleges. Nursing courses are being conducted in many colleges. Thus, this university is playing an important role in increasing the availability of health workers and providing quality health services in Chhattisgarh. Infectious diseases like malaria, filariasis and TB have still not been completely eradicated. The Government of India has moved forward to eradicate these diseases.

She said that the convocation is an important milestone in your life. This success is the result of your talent, dedication and hard work as well as the important contribution of the support and guidance of your parents, family members and teachers. She said that while planning your future, you must keep in mind that society has also contributed to your education. It is your duty to return to society what society has invested in your education. Mrs. Murmu said that you have a better understanding of local problems. You should research the health problems of the state and try to find solutions to them.

President Smt. Draupadi Murmu said that I am very happy to come to this university established in the name of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay ji, one of the great nationalist thinkers and respected personalities of Indian politics. She said that I am very happy to tell that most of the graduates are our daughters, this performance underlines the dominance of daughters. The President said that during my two-day stay in Chhattisgarh, I got the opportunity to address the students of two engineering and two medical institutions. During this time I felt the enthusiasm among the students and researchers. In such youth, I see a glimpse of my India and the new India which is moving forward with full strength to get its rightful place in the world.

Congratulating the graduating students and their parents at the convocation, Governor Shri Ramen Deka said that this day is a symbol of their tireless efforts, sacrifice and dedication. He said that this is not only an academic achievement for the students but also an excellent start on the path of human service. Governor Shri Deka said that the journey of becoming a doctor is a tough one, with students spending countless hours of late night studies, clinical training and lab work. He said that for students, the field of medicine is defined not only by knowledge and skills but also by honesty, empathy and commitment to the welfare of others. He said that the field of medicine is constantly evolving, with many challenges such as new diseases, health inequalities and technological changes. The Governor told the students that these challenges provide an opportunity for innovation and improvement in the field of medicine. He said that as doctors, they will have to face moments when patients may not recover despite their tireless efforts, but even during this time their compassionate approach will be most important. He said that in this profession of medicine it is necessary to maintain humility along with success and one should perform one’s duties with true devotion towards serving humanity.

On the occasion of the third convocation of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Smriti Health Science and Ayush University, Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai congratulated 33 meritorious students of the university for getting gold medals and 6 students for getting super specialty degrees and said that the field of medicine is a symbol of service to humanity. He told all the graduating students to discharge their responsibilities with responsibility and sensitivity towards the society and the country and work with a spirit of service. The Chief Minister also mentioned the growing popularity of traditional medical systems like Ayurveda, Unani and Homeopathy and expressed happiness that the university is also providing education in these systems.

Chief Minister Shri Sai, while referring to Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay’s message of Antyodaya, said that naming this university after him inspires us to follow his principles and serve every section of society. He described the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research and the Teachers’ Training Institute as milestones in the medical field of the country. Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Smriti Health Science and AYUSH University Vice Chancellor Shri Pradeep Kumar Patra presented the progress report of the institute. The Vice Chancellor presented mementoes and shawls to all the guests.
