Away from the race of modernity, the tribes living in the forests have their own rich culture. Different tribes also have their own Teej-festivals, folk dances and songs. In order to recognize the art and culture of these tribals, the National Tribal Dance Festival is being organized under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel from November 1 to 3 on the occasion of the 23rd foundation day of Chhattisgarh state. This is the third event of the National Tribal Festival in the state. The festival will be organized in the Science College ground of the capital Raipur.
Chhattisgarh state is endowed with natural resources with 42 types of tribes residing in Chhattisgarh. Here 44 percent of the land area is covered by forests and the population of tribals here is 31 percent of the total population of the state. 42 types of tribes reside in the state of Chhattisgarh. Through this festival, tribal artists get an opportunity to perform their art.
Important for mutual interaction, exchange of art and culture
Through the festival, there will be sharing of their arts among tribal artists at national and international level. They will also be able to see and understand each other’s food, customs, crafts-style. Tribal culture and civilization is getting international recognition by organizing the National Tribal Dance Festival. This event is proving to be very important for the mutual interaction, exchange of arts and cultures among the tribal communities of the country and the whole world.
More than 1500 tribal artists from India and abroad will participate
For the National Tribal Dance Festival, 1500 tribal artists from all the states, union territories of the country including 09 countries will perform their art. These artists will include 1400 participants from the country and 100 from abroad. Tribal artists from Mozambique, Mongolia, Tonga, Russia, Indonesia, Maldives, Serbia, New Zealand and Egypt will participate in the event.

The National Tribal Dance Festival organized for the first time in Chhattisgarh was organized in the year 2019 from 27 to 29 December. A total of 1,262 artists participated in this festival. These included 59 tribal artists from 06 countries. In this, artists from different states of India including Sri Lanka, Uganda, Maldives, Thailand, Bangladesh and Belarus displayed the culture of their country through dance.
The National Tribal Dance Festival year 2021 was organized from 28 October to 01 November. In which a total of 1,149 artists participated. These included 60 tribal artists from 07 countries. Artists from Switzerland, Mali, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, Palestine, Uganda and Uzbekistan participated.
This year the National Tribal Dance Festival 2022 will be organized from 01 to 03 November. A total of 1500 tribal artists will participate in this festival. In this, 100 tribal artists from 09 countries will reach to participate. Tribal artists from Mozambique, Mongolia, Tonga, Russia, Indonesia, Maldives, Serbia, New Zealand and Egypt will participate.
Dance festival will be held on the theme of ‘harvest harvesting and tribal customs’
This time two themes have been kept in the National Tribal Dance Festival. The first theme is ‘Tribal Dances on Harvesting’ and the second theme is ‘Tribal Traditions and Customs’. Prizes will be awarded to the winners to encourage the best performing participants.
20 lakhs to the participants for the outstanding performance
Prizes will be given to the winners to encourage the outstanding performers in the National Tribal Dance Festival. Prizes worth Rs 20 lakh will be distributed to the winners of the National Tribal Dance Festival. Prizes of Rs.05 lakh will be given for the first position, Rs.03 lakh for the second position and Rs.02 lakh for the third position.
It is worth mentioning
that in the last four and a half years, the state government has made a lot of efforts to save and beautify the folk and tribal art, culture and heritage of Chhattisgarh. Special efforts are being made to make people aware about the tourist places, art traditions and culture here. In this episode, the state song was recognized in Chhattisgarh, it was standardized. To promote the folk and traditional sports of the state, a sports event is being organized at the village level called Chhattisgarhiya Olympics.
