Chief Minister inaugurated the area with the biggest biodiversity on the banks of Thagada Dam near the city

It is difficult to even imagine a forest between Durg and Bhilai, but it is not imagination. The Chief Minister has inaugurated one such forest on the banks of Thagada Dam adjacent to Durg city. This Talpuri Nagarvan, built on 300 acres, has great potential for biodiversity. There are 103 types of vegetation and 295 types of animals and birds here. The main attraction is a reservoir spread over 108 acres. Today, the Chief Minister visited this route spread over 3 acres from an open jeep and saw the rich biodiversity here from close quarters.

On this occasion, the Chief Minister told the officials that its track is very long and this place will feel like a paradise for the people coming for morning and evening walk. Officials told the Chief Minister that migratory birds also come to this reservoir. Due to the presence of some marshy area near the reservoir, it is an ideal place for the birds to live. Accordingly, many plants have been planted here for biodiversity. Plantation work has been done here on a large scale in the last two-three years. Officials told that earlier also there were many plants here and later also saplings were planted. About seventy thousand saplings have been planted here.

It is noteworthy that its cycling track is only 3 kilometers. Benches have been placed in between to sit. It is an ideal place to meditate while listening to the chirping of birds. On this occasion, the Chief Minister also got himself photographed with the children of Swami Atmanand English Medium School. Along with this, a sapling of Kadamba was also planted in the memory of the inauguration. He also released the Bird Guide and Hariyar Durg Booklet of the Forest Department. Forest Minister Mr. Mohammad Akbar, Panchayat and School Education Minister Mr. Ravindra Choubey, PWD Minister Mr. Tamradhwaj Sahu were also present on this occasion.

Many types of birds like Indian Roller, Green Bee Eater – Talpuri Nagar Forest has a large variety of different types of trees and fauna, including a variety of grasses, plants, birds, butterflies, mammals, reptiles and groups of aquatic species Are included. About 70 thousand saplings of different tree species like teak, amla, shishu, karanj, mango, jam, jackfruit, almond, gulmohar, peltrafarm, rain tree etc. have been planted here.

Biodiversity survey has been done in this area as a result of which a total of 103 species of flora and 295 species of fauna have been identified, in which some rare and new species have been identified under Durg district. Cuckoo, Parrot, Myna, Stork, Duck, Gray Headed Swam, Indian Roller, Green Bee Eater, Purple Herren, Asian Openbill, Lesser Whistling Duck, Indian Spot Bill Duck, Combe Duck Cotton Tail, Kingfisher Common Quill, Gray Falcon etc. are regional species here. Migratory birds like Bar Headed Goose, Red Crested Pochard, Godwill, Northern Pintail, Gray Headed Swamhen etc. are found. Many species of moles are also found in this region.

Memorial Corner and Open Theater as well – For the residents of Durg city, this is a delectable place for entertainment, health and natural beauty. Yoga zone and open theater have been constructed here. A memorial corner has been set up here with an aim to encourage people to plant trees in memory of their loved ones on birthdays and any other occasion. This initiative to connect people emotionally with nature is being highly appreciated by the local people. Joining this scheme, so far more than 100 people have planted more than 200 plants at this place and they also take care of the plants planted by them from time to time.
