MPs Mr. Rahul Gandhi, Mrs. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra along with Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel today visited Sirpur, a place of historical and archaeological importance in Mahasamund district. MP Mr. Rahul Gandhi and Mrs. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra visited the world famous Laxman Devalaya temple. He also visited Surang Tila and Tivardeo Bihar. During this, MP Mr. Rahul Gandhi also met the Patel family near Tiwar Dev, Bihar.
Significantly, Sirpur is an archaeological site situated on the banks of Mahanadi. The ancient name of this place is Sripur. It used to be a huge city. Sirpur was the capital of Dakshin Kosala between the fifth and eighth centuries. Sirpur has a unique collection of cultural and architectural art. The Somvanshi kings had got the Ram temple and the Laxman temple constructed here. The ancient Laxman temple made of bricks is a world famous tourist destination. Ancient Buddhist monasteries have also been found here in the excavation. This place has been the center of Vaishnava, Shaiva, Jain and Buddhist cultures. On this occasion, Advisor to Chief Minister Mr. Pradeep Sharma, Parliamentary Secretary Mr. Vinod Sevenlal Chandrakar, Chairman of Sirpur Development Authority Mr. Satish Jaggi, Collector Mr. Nilesh Kumar Mahadev Kshirsagar and other dignitaries were present.
