Biogas will be produced from municipal solid waste

In the presence of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, a tripartite agreement will be signed between Chhattisgarh Biofuel Development Authority (CBDA), GAIL India Limited (GAIL) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) for setting up compressed biogas plants for production of biogas from municipal solid waste in six municipal corporations of Chhattisgarh, Ambikapur, Raigarh, Korba, Bilaspur, Rajnandgaon and Dhamtari, at the Chief Minister’s residence office on January 17 at 10 am. Deputy Chief Minister Shri Arun Saw will also be present in the program.
For setting up of Compressed Biogas plant in Municipal Corporations Ambikapur, Raigarh and Korba, a tripartite agreement will be signed between the concerned Municipal Corporation, CBDA and GAIL India Limited, and for setting up of the plant in Municipal Corporations Bilaspur, Dhamtari and Rajnandgaon, a tripartite agreement will be signed between the concerned Municipal Corporation, CBDA, Bharat Petroleum Corporation.Â
These municipal corporations will produce about 70 metric tons of compressed biogas per day using about 350 metric tons of municipal solid waste and about 500 metric tons of surplus biomass. GAIL and BPCL will invest Rs 600 crore for setting up these plants. The establishment of the plant will generate about 2 lakh man-days of employment every year directly and indirectly in the state. The organic manure produced as a co-product in these plants will promote organic farming in the state. Greenhouse gas emissions will decrease and the environment will be clean.
