Voting surveys will also be banned 48 hours before the end of voting

Raipur 16 October 2020. The Election Commission of India has banned the transmission or publication of exit polls from 6 am to 7 pm on November 3, keeping in view the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha by-elections of various states. Polling for the Marwahi Assembly by-election is scheduled on November 3. In view of various by-elections including Marwahi Assembly, the Election Commission of India has prohibited the publication or broadcast of any type of exit poll in the media. Chief Electoral Officer Smt. Reena Baba Saheb Kangale informed that action will be taken under the provisions of Public Representation Act-1951 for violation of model code of conduct related to exit poll. In addition to this, the ban on broadcasting or publication of any kind of poll surveys (Opinion Polls) will also be applicable from 48 hours before the end of polling in the respective constituency.

Smt. Kangale said that in the notification issued by the Election Commission of India, it has been said that under the provisions of the Representation of the People Act-1951, the last phase of polling day in various Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha by-elections in Marwahi on November 3, 2020 from 6 am onwards. On 7 November 2020, half an hour after the end of the voting, that is, the publication or broadcast of the results of the exit poll will be banned by the media in the country till 6:30 pm. During the period of the ban, no person shall be able to conduct an exit poll survey in any constituency and may not publish or publish its results on print, electronic media, film, television or any other medium. Under the Representation of the People Act, 1951, any election-related material during this period will be prohibited from display on movies, television or other such mediums.
