Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel will lay the foundation stone for the construction of grand administrative and academic buildings of Mahatma Gandhi University of Horticulture and Forestry including hostel, research center building, indoor stadium and other buildings in the Bharose Sammelan program organized at Sankara Patan in Durg district on May 21. . Various buildings of this university will be constructed at a cost of Rs 119 crore 90 lakh 77 thousand. It is noteworthy here that this university was started on 02 October 2020 by the Government of Chhattisgarh at Sankra Patan in Durg district for the youth to study and research horticulture and forestry based subjects. A total of 18 horticulture colleges are operating in the state under this university, in which there are 14 government and 4 non-government colleges. Separate colleges of Horticulture and Forestry are operated in Sankara under the University.

Significantly, the geographical location and climate of Chhattisgarh is very favorable for horticulture and forestry. Along with promoting horticulture and forestry in the state, this university was established for its special education with the aim of providing employment opportunities to the youth through it. The graduate and post-graduate passed students studying in the colleges run under this university will also be awarded degree soon by the university. PhD is also being done by the university in the field of Horticulture and Forestry. Recently the result of graduation final year has also been released by the university.
