Raipur : Kharif crops to be sown in 48 lakh 20 thousand hectares

Chhattisgarh Government’s Agriculture Department has set the target regarding the sowing of crops in the upcoming Kharif season. In Kharif season 2022, different types of crops will be sown on a total of 48 lakh 20 thousand hectares, which is about 55 thousand hectares more than the last Kharif season 2021. The most remarkable thing about the sowing target of Kharif season 2022 is that the area under paddy cultivation has been reduced by 5 lakh 35 thousand hectares as compared to the previous kharif season, while the area for maize farming has been expanded by about one lakh hectare and the area of Kodo, Kutki and Ragi cultivation has been increased by about 66 thousand hectares. Besides reducing the area under paddy cultivation, Agriculture Department has also decided to expand the area under cultivation of pulses, oilseeds and other crops by nearly three and a half lakh hectares.
According to the information received from Agriculture Department, Kharif crops were sown in 47 thousand 65 thousand 190 hectares in the state in the Kharif season 2021. In Kharif season 2022, this target has been increased by nearly 55 thousand hectares to 48 lakh 20 thousand hectares. In the last Kharif season, paddy was sown in 38 lakh 99 thousand 340 hectare area in the state, whereas in the Kharif season 2022 this target has been reduced to 33 lakh 64 thousand 500 hectares. Hence, the department has set a target of reducing the area under paddy farming by 5 lakh 35 thousand hectares. In the Kharif season 2022, maize will be sown in 3 lakh 14 thousand hectares, whereas last year the area under maize cultivation was 2 lakh 5 thousand hectares. The area of Kodo Kutki and Ragi cultivation has also been increased from 82 thousand hectare to one lakh 47 thousand hectare. Thus, the area for coarse food grains have also been increased in the state from 2 lakh 88 thousand hectare to 4 lakh 60 thousand hectare. In this kharif season, lentils and pulses are being cultivated in an area of 4 lakh 48 thousand hectares in the state, whereas in the last Kharif season, pulses crops were cultivated in 2 lakh 77 thousand hectares. Similarly, the area of oilseed crops has been increased by one lakh, which means that now oilseed crops are being sown in an area of two lakh 67 thousand 700 hectares.
