The country is now moving from punishment to justice. The Modi government at the Center has made positive changes in the laws that have been in place since the British era. In order to make the enlightened section of the society along with the general public aware of this, today at Civil Lines Circuit House under the chairmanship of Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Vijay Sharma and in the presence of Director General of Police Mr. Ashok Juneja, advocates of the society, social service organizations, business organizations, editors, journalists, police and A workshop was organized for the administrative department.
On this occasion, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Vijay Sharma has said that now the country will be governed by the laws made in India and not by the laws passed in Britain. Addressing a workshop organized by the Home Department on the topic “New Law: From Penal Code to Justice Code” at the Circuit House in the capital Raipur here today, he said that the new law provides justice to the victim along with punishing the criminal. The feeling of is implicit. Providing justice and security to women and children is also a priority of this new law. This new law is definitely the result of visionary thinking and imagination.
Deputy Chief Minister Shri Sharma said in the workshop that with the new law our society and country will move forward, now no one will be able to give date after date. Action will have to be taken under all legal provisions within the time limit. In the new law, there is a mandatory provision for first information and investigation of crimes against women to be done by a woman officer. He said that there is a provision of life imprisonment for crimes committed against the unity, integrity or sovereignty of India through separatist activities or armed rebellion or subversive activities.
Deputy Chief Minister Shri Sharma said that the new law mainly covers changes in colonial laws, women’s safety and justice, terrorism, organized crime and crimes against India’s sovereignty, unity and integrity, victim-centric legal provisions, scientific technology in research, digital and electronic evidence. Provisions related to judicial procedure have been included. Referring to Article 370, he said that after 70 years of independence, the resolve of our ancestors has been fulfilled. He talked about providing extensive training regarding the new law, technical upgradation, resource and financial management, inter-departmental coordination and implementing the provisions of the new laws.
He said that in the new law, there is a provision for maximum death penalty for the crime of murder by mob lynching. Indian Judicial Code 2023 was notified in place of Indian Penal Code 1860. He said that instead of 511 sections of the Indian Penal Code, there are now 358 sections and instead of 23 chapters, there are 20 chapters. The Indian Civil Protection Code 2023 has been notified in place of the Indian Code of Criminal Procedure 1973, which has 531 sections instead of 484 sections and 39 chapters instead of 37 chapters. The Indian Evidence Act 2023 has been notified in place of the Indian Evidence Act 1972, which has 170 sections instead of 167 sections and 12 chapters instead of 11 chapters.
MP Shri Sunil Soni, while addressing the program, said that with the implementation of the new law, the victims will get justice as soon as possible and the credibility of the police will increase.
Director General of Police Shri Ashok Juneja threw light on the technical aspect of the law in detail. In the workshop, detailed information was given about the Indian Justice Code 2023, Civil Defense Code 2023 and Indian Evidence Act 2023. In which changes have been made in the colonial laws that have been in place for centuries. Regarding this topic, there was a positive discussion on the Indian Justice Code at the Old Police Headquarters with Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, Chief Secretary Shri Amitabh Jain, DGP Shri Ashok Juneja, ADG Naxal Operations, Home Department, Additional Chief Secretary Shri Manoj Pingua and officials.
On this occasion, MLAs Mr. Purandar Mishra and Mr. Motilal Sahu, senior officers of the police department, advocates, officials of the Chamber of Commerce, many public representatives, media representatives and distinguished citizens were present in large numbers.
