India-Australia T-20 match is going to be held on 1st December at Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Stadium in Raipur. The sale of tickets is also going on for this, but this match will be held under generator light. There is an outstanding electricity bill of about Rs 3.25 crore at the stadium. The company had disconnected the connection 5 years ago due to non-payment.
Temporary electricity connection was given on the application of PWD and Chhattisgarh State Cricket Association. This illuminates the stadium’s rooms, spectators’ gallery and boxes, but a generator has to be used to light the flood lights. To avoid chaos during the match, the generator starts with the entry of the spectators and continues till their exit. Application to increase the capacity of temporary connection.
Raipur Rural Circle in-charge Ashok Khandelwal said that the Secretary Cricket Association has applied to increase the capacity of temporary connection of the stadium. At present the capacity of temporary connection is 200 KV. An application has been received to upgrade it to 1 thousand KV. Electricity company officials have also approved it.
To avoid any problem in supply, officers and employees have also completed the maintenance work. Electricity company officials are ready to supply on temporary meter. When Dainik Bhaskar team asked questions from the officers regarding the recovery of outstanding bills, they refused to give information in this matter.
Non-payment of bills was revealed in 2018
In the year 2018, the Sports Department had organized a half marathon program. The players who stayed during the program could not get proper electricity supply. When there was a dispute on this matter, the matter reached the media. It was revealed that the electricity bill of the stadium had not been deposited since 2009.
In this matter, PWD and Sports Department were badly beaten, then a temporary connection was applied for and the program of organizing the half marathon was completed. To get this temporary connection, two lakh rupees were also deposited by the sports association along with the application. Officials are putting the responsibility on each other.
After the construction of the stadium, its maintenance was handed over to PWD, while the remaining expenses were to be borne by the Sports Department. The problem lies here in this matter. The officials of both the departments are saving their necks by blaming each other.
Sports department officials said that electricity bill is also an item under maintenance. According to this rule the bill should be given to PWD. Whereas PWD Chief Engineer Dnyaneshwar Kashyap says that the payment has to be made by the Sports Department, because the activities were being organized through them. Notices have been given more than half a dozen times.
So far, notices have been given more than half a dozen times by the electricity company to PWD and Sports Department for recovery. According to the officials of the electricity company, so that the outstanding bills could be recovered, a file for the preparation of attachment of the Parsada Stadium in July 2023 was also started.
