In the Rabi season 2021-22, the area under gram has increased by more than 52 thousand hectares (about one lakh 30 thousand acres). The area under gram has increased from 3 lakh 63 thousand hectares to 4 lakh 15 thousand hectares in a year. This jump in the cultivation of gram in the current Rabi season is more than 5 times the average growth of last 3 years.
In Chhattisgarh, in the Rabi year 2017-18, gram was cultivated in 3 lakh 35 thousand hectares, in which there was an average increase of 10 thousand hectares year after year and in the last rabi season 2020-21, the area under cultivation was 3 lakh 36 thousand. hectare reached. This year the farmers have shown a lot of interest in the cultivation of gram in the state, due to which the sudden increase of 52 thousand hectare in its area is a happy sign.
Agriculture Minister Shri Ravindra Choubey says that due to the farmer-friendly policy of the Chhattisgarh government, there has been a rapid change in the field of agriculture. There has been an increase in the prosperity of the farmers. This is the reason why farmers are now increasingly adopting pulses, oilseeds, fruits and flowers and vegetable cultivation. Minister Shri Choubey believes that the amount of input subsidy being received from time to time by the Chhattisgarh Government’s Kisan Nyay Yojana has inspired the farmers to innovate in the field of agriculture and adopt crop diversification.
In Chhattisgarh state this year maximum increase of 28 thousand hectares has been done in the cultivation of gram in the districts of Durg division. Its area has increased from 9230 hectares to 16170 hectares in Balod district of Durg division, which is two and a half times more than last year. In the districts of Raipur division, the farmers’ tendency towards gram cultivation has increased. The area under cultivation of gram has increased by more than two times in the districts of this division. In the last Rabi season, gram was cultivated in 15820 hectares in Raipur, Balodabazar, Gariaband, Mahasamund, Dhamtari districts, Which has reached 32340 hectares with an increase of 17500 hectares this year. The involvement of farmers in the cultivation of gram in Mahasamund district has been amazing. Till now, gram was cultivated on an average of 100-125 hectares in Mahasamund. In the last Rabi season, farmers had planted gram in only 30 hectares in this district. Its area has crossed 5000 hectares with an increase of more than 167 times this year. Similarly, there has been an increase of three and a half times in Dhamtari district. Last year, gram was cultivated in 2730 hectares in Dhamtari district, whereas this year farmers are cultivating gram in more than 10 thousand areas.
In the Bilaspur division of the state, the area under gram has increased by about 4,000 hectares this year, 1800 hectares in the districts of Surguja division and more than 1700 hectares in the districts of Bastar zone. In the current Rabi season, sowing of gram in 4 lakh 15 thousand 650 hectares is nearing completion.
