  1. RAIPUR: With the Chhattisgarh government appearing to be in no mood to meet the demand of the striking Junior Residents doctors (JRs), officials have started mounting pressure on the Raipur Medical College authorities to get the hostel rooms vacated from the medicos. The health department had served notices to the striking doctors on Thursday, directing them to vacate their hostel rooms if the strike wasn t withdrawn. Sources said health officials are now pressuring the Medical College authorities to implement the notices and use force, if necessary, to get the hostels vacated. They have asked to get the room vacated and lock the hostels , said a college functionary on condition of anonymity. The government has also directed the college to ensure that no protests or dharnas are organized by the striking medicos in the college and hospital premises. In case the JRs want to stage a sit-in for their demands, they should be asked to go to Budhatalab, the designated area for protests. Till the filing of the report, college authorities maintained that they had yet not initiated the process of getting the rooms vacated. However, the striking doctors claimed that some of them were forced out of their rooms last night and they had slept outside of Out Patient department (OPD). Dr Kamlesh Agarwal 00004000, member of Junior Doctors Association said since the government is not willing to accept their demand for a hike in their stipend, the strike will continue. No matter what they do, we will not withdraw the strike , he said. It reliably learnt that the striking doctors were trying to seek the intervention of the state health minister, Amar Aggarwal, to end the impasse. Besides, vacation of hostel rooms, the government has also threatened to cancel the Post Graduate seats if the strike continues. Meanwhile services at the hospital continued to remain adversely affected by the strike. Though government has called in 50 doctors from district hospitals to meet the shortage of 200 odd JRs, they were proving to be ineffective due to new surroundings and different work cultures.
