A meeting of the Board of Directors was held today in the residence office of Tribal and Scheduled Caste Development Minister Shri Ramvichar Netam. Senior officials of the Tribal Department along with officials of other related departments were present in the meeting through video conferencing.  

Minister Shri Netam said in the meeting that it is a matter of pride for Chhattisgarh to host the 4th National Sports Competition of Eklavya Adarsh ​​Residential School. This task is challenging and very important. We will meet this challenge together with everyone’s participation. He said that many delegates including players from various states from across the country, their coaches, teachers and parents will be present, for whom arranging accommodation, transportation and other things is a very challenging task. For this, he instructed the officers and employees to fulfill their duties with seriousness.

Minister Shri Netam said that the spirit of Chhattisgarh has been ‘Atithi Dev Bhava’. Therefore, this spirit of the state should remain. He instructed to make arrangements for Chhattisgarhi cuisine for the players and delegates. He also instructed to make the players who leave the sports competition during the game aware of the historical heritage of Chhattisgarh.

Principal Secretary of Tribal, Scheduled Caste and Backward Class and Minority Development Department, Mr. Sonamni Bora told in the meeting that this time Chhattisgarh has got the hosting of Eklavya Adarsh ​​Residential School National Games. This sports competition will be organized in different sports disciplines in different stadiums of the capital Raipur from 15 December to 19 December. In the sports competition, 15 singles and doubles and 7 group games will be organized, thus a total of 22 games will be organized.

Principal Secretary Mr. Bora informed that it has been decided to prepare a mascot on Chhattisgarh’s ‘The Tiger Boy Chendru’. He informed that the heroic tales of the tribals are still narrated in the tribal dominated area of ​​Bastar. One such story of the dense forest area of ​​Abujhmad is of Chendru Mandavi. Who used to spend most of his childhood with a tiger. The story of friendship between Chendru and the tiger is famous all over the world. People from all over the country still come to Bastar to know the facts related to Chendru and the tiger. Chendru Mandavi belonged to a tribal family living in Garhbengal village of Narayanpur district.

Principal Secretary Shri Sonamni Bora informed in the meeting that more than 6 thousand players of Eklavya schools operating in 25 states of the country are likely to participate in the proposed Eklavya Residential School National Sports Competition from 15 to 19 December. More than 1500 delegates are expected to come along with this and preparations have begun for the event.

In the meeting, Minister Shri Netam gave necessary guidelines regarding accommodation, food and transportation of the players and the officials accompanying them, as well as other arrangements including sports venues, security arrangements, electricity, water, cleanliness etc.

Principal Secretary Mr. Bora informed that Eklavya Model Residential Schools are being run in the state by the Government of India, Ministry of Tribal Affairs, National Tribal Student Education Committee, New Delhi with the objective of providing quality education to the students of scheduled tribe category and bringing them at par with the students of general category and to inculcate the spirit of competition in them. At present, a total of 75 Eklavya Model Residential Schools are being run in the state, out of which 10 are for girls, 6 for boys and 59 are for joint.

Secretary cum Commissioner of Tribal Welfare Department Mr Narendra Dugga, Additional Director Mr Sanjay Gaur along with officials from PWD, Health Department, Women and Child Development Department, Education Department and other related departments were present in the meeting.
