Dutch variety of roses being supplied in major cities of the state including the capital

Hi-tech cultivation of rose is being done in Kanker district of Vananchal of Chhattisgarh. Farmers are producing Dutch variety roses from Netherlands. One such farmer is Mr. Girja Nishad, who changed his ancestral farming and started rose cultivation and is now earning lakhs of rupees annually. The fragrance and color of the Dutch roses of his fields are now spreading not only in Raipur but also in other cities. Due to this, his life has also become fragrant.
Along with the capital Raipur, there is a huge demand for flowers including roses for decoration in other big cities of the state. In view of this, the farmers are being encouraged by the state government to cultivate flowers. In the National Horticulture Mission, technical guidance is also provided by the Horticulture Department, besides other inputs including construction of polyhouses for improved cultivation of flowers. Loan grants are also arranged through banks for the construction of polyhouses to the farmers.
Mr. Girja Nishad of Chaugel village of Kanker district is earning Rs. 9 to 10 thousand per day by cultivating flowers in his one acre. He has planted rose plants of Dutch variety of Netherlands in the polyhouse built in his farm. He is getting 45 to 50 kg of rose flowers per day in just one acre of field. Which is packaged and sent for sale in Raipur at the rate of 02 hundred rupees per kg.
Mr. Girja said that four laborers have been kept in the polyhouse for plucking and taking care of flowers. He said that in other crops, after three to four months of hard work, production is obtained only once, but in rose cultivation, production starts after two to three months of planting, which continues for three consecutive years. . After three years, the rose stalk is re-planted and maintained and pruned from time to time.
Agriculture Department official said that farmer Mr. Girja Nishad has been given subsidy of Rs. 31 lakh on 50 percent subsidy from the National Horticulture Board for rose cultivation and polyhouse construction. The soil for rose cultivation should be porous and have good drainage. It was not possible to harvest food grains due to the stony Marhan soil in Mr. Girja’s field. The rose has given successful results in this land. He told that rose is called the king of flowers. It is in great demand in national and international markets. Gulkand, rose water, oils, cosmetics, soaps, incense sticks, perfumes, jams, jellies, beverages, etc. are made from rose flowers. Farmers can get good income from rose cultivation.
