The future of compensation cess under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) was discussed in great detail in the GST Council meeting today. The meeting was held at Madhya Pradesh Bhawan in New Delhi and was attended by finance ministers and senior officials of various states under the chairmanship of the Union Minister of State for Finance.
The presence of Chhattisgarh Finance Minister Shri OP Choudhary was important in this meeting. He put forward many important suggestions before the council. Finance Secretary Mukesh Bansal was also present during this meeting. The ministerial group of GST Council includes members from Assam, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.
This group will give suggestions to make the GST system more robust and transparent. The GST Council, which is the constitutional body responsible for coordination and uniformity of indirect taxation in the country, will take the final decision on this subject.
