Raipur, 15 August 2021.  Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has said that Gol Bazar located in the capital is not only a historical heritage but also an important identity of the entire Raipur city. It is the intention of the government that this priceless heritage should be preserved and developed in a new form with all facilities while maintaining its original form.

Chief Minister Shri Baghel reached Gol Bazar, Raipur on foot on the occasion of 75th Independence Day this evening and while discussing with the traders in the Chowk here expressed his views on the said intention. During this, as a result of the unprecedented decision taken in the interest of the traders, Gol Bazar Traders Federation congratulated Chief Minister Mr. Baghel and thanked him. Chief Minister Shri Baghel said that keeping in mind the interest of the traders, an important decision has been taken by the government to develop Gol Bazar with state-of-the-art facilities. Under this, necessary provisions were made regarding giving ownership of their land and their shop to the traders doing business in Gol Bazar. This land has been transferred by the government to the Municipal Corporation and the Collector Raipur has been delegated powers under the Transfer of Property Rules. Under whose supervision further action will be taken.

Chief Minister Shri Baghel said that this is an important innovative initiative of the administration. It has never been heard nor seen that the government has decided to hand over the land of any market to the traders running that market. It has been decided to make him the owner of his shop, land. I was surprised to learn that people have done business here over the years, but also many who have done business here for generations. He is in possession of this land only by license title, that is, he is the tenant of the corporation only. Keeping this in mind, the state government has taken an important decision to give ownership of their land, their shop to the traders doing business in Gol Bazar. The Chief Minister said that ‘it is also believed that if a person came to Raipur and did not see Gol Bazaar, then what did he see.’

It is worth mentioning that Gol Bazaar was upgraded in the year 1909, this market is about one hundred and fifty years old. Gol Bazar is spread over three and a half acres. There is an old saying about the market “whatever you don’t get, you get it here”. It is also said that in this market all the goods from birth till the last rites of a person are available.
