Raipur, 06 July 2022, Meenal, a resident of Bharra, Baikunthpur, had a dream to have a house of her own, but this dream remained a dream for a long time. Meenal did not have money to build a house for herself. Meenal used to do the work of applying dung on the walls of other’s houses in the village to strengthen it, but then she started selling cow dung to gauthan. And with the profits so earned, Meenal has now managed to get a house made for herself. With the help of Godhan Nyay Yojana, Meenal earned Rs. 28,000 by selling 140 quintals of cow dung and earned Rs. 5 lakh by selling 500 quintals of vermi-composted manure from cow dung. And this journey of growth for Meenal is not over yet and she intends to take maximum advantage of this scheme.
Like Meenal, there are many success stories in the state about how Godhan Nyay Yojana commenced by Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel has turned lives around. Since the launch of Godhan Nyay Yojana in Chhattisgarh, many such living examples have come to the fore in which people have fulfilled their dreams by selling cow dung. Some bought a mobile phone by selling cow dung, some a motorcycle, some jewelry and others managed to get their daughter married.
The objective behind the launch of this scheme is to increase the income of the livestock farmers, to protect the crops by prohibiting the open grazing of livestock, to expand the bi-cropping area, to promote the use of organic manure, to provide employment opportunities to the local people, to improve the fertility of the land and to promote eutrophication. Godhan Nyay scheme of the Government of Chhattisgarh has gained popularity across the country, and Government of India has appreciated as well. This scheme has provided additional source of income to the livestock farmers in rural and urban areas.
Under Godhan Nyay Yojana, Rs. 147.06 crore has been paid to the villagers so far in lieu of the cow dung procured till June 15 in Gauthans. An amount of Rs 136.04 crore has been paid so far to Gauthan Samitis and Women Self Help Groups.
