Various programs are being run by the state government to make agriculture and its based business like fisheries, animal husbandry etc. work in a traditional way to strengthen the rural economy and provide employment opportunities to the people at the local level. Under this, rural agriculture, animal husbandry, use of water resources and their products and waste materials are being used locally in agriculture and works based on it.
Under the Godhan Nyaya Yojana, cow dung is being procured at the rate of Rs. 2 per kg and cow urine at the rate of Rs. 4 per liter from the rural cattle herders in Gauthans. For organic farming, cow dung is being used to make vermicompost and cow urine is being used to make insecticide medicine. In more than 8 thousand Gothans of the state, more than 1 lakh 30 thousand women of 25 thousand Bihaan groups are getting benefitted by participating in various livelihood activities.
Apart from this, on the basis of available resources in Gauthans, the economic condition of the villagers has been strengthened by works like bari, poultry, goat rearing, dairy, pisciculture etc. Fish farming is being done by storing fish seeds in the ponds located in the vicinity of these Gauthans. The fresh cow dung of Gauthan is used to develop natural fish feed in the ponds. Under multi-activity in the ponds of Gauthan villages, training to the beneficiaries, distribution of ice boxes, boat nets etc. are also being done for the sale of fish. Fish farming is being done in the ponds of 1753 gothans of the state, in which 8 thousand 775 jobs are being created. Groups are being helped through intensive fish farming, biofloc etc. in these ponds.
