Raipur. 27 July 2023
The Health Department has issued a circular to the Director of School Education and Tribal and Scheduled Castes Development Department for the prevention of conjunctivitis. The health department has asked both the departments to circulate necessary instructions to prevent conjunctivitis in schools, hostels, residential schools and ashram-hostels. The health department has also asked children to be informed about the symptoms, treatment and prevention of this infection.
In a circular issued by the Director, Epidemic Control, to the School Education Department and the Tribal and Scheduled Caste Development Department, it has been said that “conjunctivitis” has increased due to the weather in the state. It is a disease spread by contact, which spreads more in densely populated areas. In state-run schools, residential schools, ashram-hostels and hostels, students live in groups in which this disease can spread. He has asked to circulate necessary instructions for its prevention in the institutions run by both the departments.
The Director, Epidemic Control has also given information about the symptoms, treatment and prevention of conjunctivitis in its circular. He has said in the circular that conjunctivitis is a common eye disease, which we also call conjunctivitis. In this disease, the patient’s eye becomes red, mud comes, tears come, there is prickling and sometimes swelling also occurs.
In case of conjunctivitis, antibiotic drops such as Gentamicine, Ciprofloxacine, Moxifloxacin eye drops should be given to the patient six times a day for three days. If there is no relief in three days, there may be a possibility of some other disease. In this case it is advisable to see an eye specialist. Otherwise a serious situation may arise. The facility of examination and treatment of conjunctivitis is available free of cost in medical colleges, district hospitals, community health centers and primary health centers.
Conjunctivitis is a contagious disease that spreads through contact. Therefore, the patient should be advised not to touch his eyes. The spread of this disease can be stopped by avoiding shaking hands with the patient and separating the things used by him. The belief that the disease can be spread by looking at an infected eye is just an illusion. This disease spreads only by contact.
